I have been interested in photography for most of my adult life but I didn't really get into it until Fall 2007. Around the same time, I started undergoing testing for some health problems and was eventually diagnosed with ALS in June 2008. I realized then that if I was serious about photography, it was now or never and I threw myself headlong into learning everything I could on the subject. Photography has become a great creative outlet and a way to keep me occupied as I slowly became less able to do the things I loved doing.
Though I started out with a digital SLR and I still take a lot of digital photos, my main interests lie in film and more specifically, medium format film. There is a feeling I get, when I view a 6x7 color slide that is well composed and well exposed, that I have never got from a digital camera. There is also something very gratifying about using 30+ year old equipment, that I acquired for nearly nothing, and getting as good or often better images than a new $1500 digital camera. That being said, I still love my DSLRs and use them frequently
