My passion is landscape photography - being in the mountains and away from civilization allows me the opportunity to capture what I love most about the outdoors
I started photography after having worked for a landscape photographer in Salt Lake City, UT. It did not hurt that Utah is a place that simply screams for image capture! I have since moved to Saint Paul, MN for, of all things, a job. The terrain here is certainly different than out west; it has made me a better photographer though given how one must try harder to get inspiring landscape photos... scenes do not jump out at you like in the mountains.
My first camera, a Pentax ZX-50, was in use for over 10 years. Entry level camera? Yes. You get out of it what you put into it? Yes again. I loved this camera - couple it with Velvia and you cannot go wrong. The K10D is now my primary camera though and I still take an "almost purist" view to photography as it relates to post-processing.
For scans of slides or negatives, I try to stay as true to the original slide as possible, using a light table for reference. For digitally-captured images, I do employ tone-mapping and contrast changes; sharpening of the original image is done as needed (with the K10D, it seems as if this is needed just a little bit). My day job is managing a marketing analytics team in the finance industry. It pays the bills for sure but my mind constantly wonders to far off places!
